For seven days, the United States Naval Academy (USNA) celebrates the men and women of its current graduating class. The scheduled events honor every midshipman graduating from Annapolis.
2023’s Commissioning Week starts on Friday, May 19. It concludes with the graduation ceremony at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 26, culminating with the Middies throwing their white caps high into the sky as the Blue Angels fly over. Their spectacular air show plays a particular part in the graduation festivities, and their aerial acrobatics will be an unforgettable sight.
About 11 million people attend the Blue Angels air shows annually. The Navy estimates more than 260 million spectators have come to see the Blue Angels since the squadron’s maiden flight in 1946. In addition to their derring-do in the wide blue yonder, Blue Angels team members also visit hospitals and schools as part of their Navy public relations duties. They see more than 50,000 people annually.
People gather on the banks of the Severn River on the Naval Academy campus to get the best vantage points of the Blue Angels’ daring acrobatics. The squadron’s schedule during Commissioning Week 2023 are listed below:
