The Holy Trinity of Cajun Cuisine
July 24, 2023Sandwiches were named after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, an eighteenth-century English nobleman. The dish allowed him to stay at the table, playing cards late into the night.
Snacking on The Crab’s Shack’s superb seafood sandwiches will make you enjoy summer more. The three we are highlighting below have made a lot of fans and will be served with a plate of fresh-cut fries.
Softshell Crab Sandwich (Crofton)
Dining on softshell crabs originated in Italy, Spain, and Japan during ancient times. For the U.S., foodie historians think it all started around the Chesapeake Bay because of our delectable Blue Crab.
No expert is certain when the first sandwich containing softshell crab was invented. However, it is hugely popular in our state. A group of gung-ho Marylanders attempted to have the softshell crab officially designated as the Free State’s official sandwich. However, getting a bill passed has proven to be elusive.
Ahi Tuna Sandwich (Edgewater)
There is a wide variety of grilled and fried seafood sandwiches available. But the Ahi Tuna sandwich is considered the very best by many foodies.
Research by sandwich historians revealed that Cindy Pawlcyn first published a recipe for grilled Ahi tuna steak on a poppyseed bun in 2001. This was a time when people weren’t staring at their smartphones.
Crab Cake Sandwich (Crofton)
More than 30 years ago, McDonald’s proudly introduced their crab cake sandwich in Maryland. This fast food move by the Golden Arches left many in shock in the spring of 1992.
No one had previously dreamed of inserting a crab cake between two pieces of bread. Although not traditional, the item could be made and served quickly. Wendy’s came up with their version, trying to stay competitive.
