Crab Cakes and MoreFebruary 9, 2021
Grant Yourself “Immunity”February 20, 2021
I had surgery in December, and during my recovery period, I have not been able to be physically active, let alone up to the level that my metabolism had grown accustomed to, and I put on some weight. I am still not quite at the point in my recovery where I can head back to the gym, but I am at the point where I either need to do something about my diet or start buying a larger size of clothes and rebuild my wardrobe. While researching these articles, I think I may have found a loophole that will allow me to have my “cake” and eat it too, and The Crab Shack in Crofton and Edgewater is the perfect place to help me reach my goals.
Specializing in local crabs, oysters, and other seafood and shellfish, The Crab Shack unwittingly provides more services to their community than they ever dreamt of. Not only are they producing a product that is second to none in quality, availability, and affordability, they are also providing a health care service. Shellfish are high in vitamins, minerals, and Omega-3 fatty acids, which boost the immune system and keep the heart healthy. Shellfish are also rich in proteins and dietary cholesterol and low in saturated and other fats, which are key elements in a healthy diet and metabolism, advantageous to weight loss.
Naturally, shellfish are very low in calories. We all know that if you burn more calories than you ingest, you will lose weight. All of the seafood at The Crab Shack is available steamed, which will keep those calories on the low end, and the seasoning used in the steaming process is a recipe perfected over 30 years. Shellfish are also said to be one of the best sources of dietary proteins that break down into the amino acids that the body needs. One lobster provides almost sixty percent of the body’s daily protein necessity, while crabs and oysters offer a third to half of the necessary proteins, respectively. The dietary cholesterol found in shellfish is much better for the body than saturated fats, which will keep your blood cholesterol low. All of this makes shellfish the perfect protein for your diet. If you are trying to lose weight – take it easy on the butter.
