Four dog-friendly beaches on Chesapeake Bay are waiting for you and your pal to press pause. These are stretches of sand where hounds and their humans can play and paddle leash-free.
Use a leash if your best friend does not know how to share a sandbox. Make sure also to clean up wherever your friend goes.
Downs Park Beach
Located around 18 miles north of Annapolis, Downs Park has a swimming area reserved for dogs. You can go leash-free, so your best friend can romp roll a gorgeous beach on the Chesapeake Bay. After doing a doggy paddle, put a leash on your buddy and explore the many trails of the 238-acre park. Please note they close the beach on Tuesdays.
Matapeake Beach
Just 20 minutes away by car from Annapolis via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Matapeake Beach features a stretch of shore reserved for doggies to swim. There is also a scenic trail to a leash-free dog park, where you can throw a tennis ball and play fetch.
Sandy Point Park
Sandy Point State Park is situated on the western end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Annapolis’ most famous beach. A designated doggie swimming area awaits your buddies if they like the water. The dog beach is open from October to April, and your best friend is not allowed from the beginning of June to the end of September.
Terrapin Nature Park
This pleasant 276-acre park features a perfect trail for puppy strolling. Your buddy can chase butterflies through colorful fields of wildflowers during springtime. During summer, your best friend can roll around the grass before cooling off at a beach reserved for doggie paddling. Just 15 miles from Annapolis, Terrapin Nature Park features excellent views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
