Maryland Crab Feast FAQs
How can you tell a crab is from Maryland?
A Chesapeake Bay blue crab is typically light blue with touches of black. They are also a lot smaller than their brothers and sisters on the Gulf Coast. Crabs from the Carolinas and Florida also sport different colors.
Why do citizens of Maryland steam crab?
The more south you travel, the more common crab boils become. Unfortunately, this style of cooking will turn crab meat into mush. In contrast, steaming allows excess moisture in the crab meat to evaporate.
Why is Blue Crab of Maryland the best?
Experts say Maryland’s blue crab has the best flavor. Their delicate texture and taste are head and shoulders above other crabs. They are incredibly delicious in the fall because they have accumulated fat to prepare for winter hibernation.
