Throw a Crab Feast for Labor Day 2023!
August 14, 2023Diehard Navy football fans can’t wait until the opening game of the 2023 season. They want to wash away the awful memory of last year.
The Middies finished the 2022 season by losing a heartbreaker to their rivals from West Point in the annual Army-Navy game by a score of 20-17.
As a result,15th-yearr head coach Ken Niumatalolo was fired for a 4-8overall record andh a terrible 1-6 American Athletic Conference record.
Their first game will be out of the country. Playing their storied rivals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, in Dublin, Irelan,d on August 26.
Their new head coach is Brian Newberry, who was Navy’s defensive coordinator for the past four years. The Middies will then play three games in September, two at home in Annapolis.
Wagner College – September 9
Navy’s first home contest will line them up against the Wagner Seahawks, a team from the Northeast Conference. The Seahawks finished 1-10 last season but ended a 26-game losing streak in 2022 by beating LIU 37-26.
Their third-year head coach Tom Masella is working hard to bring a vastly improved unit to the field for the 2023 season.
University of South Florida – September 30
Navy’s second AAC conference game of the season will be against the USF Bulls. They will be led by first-year head coach Alex Golesh, who was the offensive coordinator of the 11-2 Tennessee Volunteers last season.
The Vols had a dynamic offense in 2022, and they upset perennial powers, Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers. Golesh will bring a more creative offensive approach to improve on the Bull’s disastrous 1-11 2022 season.
