Cook Them Right
March 8, 2021I will admit, the title of this article is a little bit misleading because shellfish are primarily just for eating, especially the fresh local crabs, oysters, clams, mussels, and shrimp that you will find at The Crab Shack in Crofton and Edgewater. However there are several reasons that shellfish should be a significant part of any balanced diet. Shellfish provide a large variety of vitamins and minerals that can help boost your immune system and protect your body from disease and infection, and are also very important for heart health.
Health Benefits of Seafood
Shellfish are high in Omega-3 fatty acids which promote heart health. A recent Harvard study showed that the Omega-3 fatty acids found in shellfish protect the heart against the development of abnormal, and often dangerous, disturbances in your heart rhythms. It has been recommended by the American Heart Association that because of the protection against erratic and deadly cardiac rhythms, and other health benefits provided by shellfish, that the average person should include shellfish in their diet at least twice a week.
The consumption of shellfish has also been known to decrease blood pressure and heart rate, improve blood vessel function, and decrease inflammation in the heart. Studies have shown that eating approximately two grams of fish and shellfish that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids per week will reduce someone’s chance of dying from heart disease by over a third. Eating shellfish one to two times a week has also shown to reduce the risk of stroke, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and other chronic conditions. Unfortunately, the same study has shown that less than 20% follow this dietary advice and they are suffering the consequences. Some of the main reasons people tend to give for not keeping enough shellfish in their weekly dinner plans are cost, access to seafood, and simply disliking seafood or a concern over how to prepare it. The Crab Shack in Crofton and Edgewater is the answer to all of these concerns. You will no longer have to drive into Baltimore or Annapolis to get your seafood because The Crab House has two locations in the heart of Anne Arundel County. If you are concerned that you do not like seafood, or have concerns over cooking it, the recipes at The Crab Shack have been perfected over the last 30 years, and are guaranteed to have you determined to get seafood in your diet AT LEAST twice a week. Make your heart and belly happy at The Crab Shack in Edgewater or Crofton.
